What he wanted

This one's meta. I wanted to explain how the Cut Book works. Every entry from here on is a real cut, real customer, real problem. The photo will speak, but the article does the rest. Who the cut suits, how to maintain it, what to ask for.

What to ask your barber

You don't need to ask for the 'welcome' cut. Book the Haircut service, come in, and tell Prince what you're after. That's the whole point.

Booked is safer than walked-in. Pick a service, pick a time, see you in the chair.

Frequently asked

  • Do I have to book, or can I walk in?

    Both. Walk-ins welcome when there's a chair open. Booked is safer, especially Thursday, Friday, Saturday after 4pm.

  • How long does a haircut take?

    Forty-five minutes. Add-ons stack: a haircut plus beard clean-up runs about 1h 15m. You'll see the total time before you confirm the booking.

  • How often should I come back?

    2-3 weeks if you want the fade looking sharp. 4 weeks if you're happy letting it soften and grow naturally.

Getting to the chair

Fresh By Prince is in Surry Hills, but Prince's chair isn't only convenient for people who live around the corner. The L1 light rail stops right outside on Devonshire Street, and Central Station is roughly a five-minute walk away. That makes the shop an easy trip if you're coming in from the Inner West, Eastern Suburbs, CBD or further across Sydney by train. If you're already travelling through Central for work, uni or the city, getting a proper cut in Surry Hills doesn't need to become a separate expedition.
