You Come for the Cut. You Come Back for How It Feels.

A haircut can be measured. Length. Shape. Blend. Finish. But how someone feels when they sit in your chair matters just as much.

Fresh By Prince client outdoors in Surry Hills after visiting Prince for a haircut

Some reviews talk about the fade.

Some talk about the beard.

Some talk about the way the hair sits two weeks later.

Then every now and again, someone writes something that reminds Prince what the job is really about.

Anthony left this:

> "Honestly the best salon I've been to, and I've tried them all. Prince is not only passionate about his craft, he's perfecting it. But what sets him apart is how he makes you feel the moment you walk in. The positive energy, the smile he always greets you with: it's genuine, every single time. An incredible human being! And one of the best in the business. Go once and you won't be able to go anywhere else."

And then he posted a photo too.

Not just of the haircut. Of himself. Out in Sydney. Looking good. Feeling good.

That matters.

This one is just a thank you.

Anthony,

Thank you.

Not because you called Prince one of the best in the business. Although he will absolutely take that.

Thank you because you noticed the part that is harder to put on a service menu.

The greeting. The energy. The smile. The feeling when you walk through the door.

A haircut can be measured. Length. Shape. Texture. Blend. Finish.

But how somebody feels when they sit in your chair is harder to measure.

And that part matters just as much.

The cut starts before the clippers.

Prince has always believed the appointment starts when you walk through the door.

Not when the cape goes on. Not when the scissors come out. Not when the first clipper touches the side of your head.

Before all of that.

You walk in. Prince greets you. You settle in. You talk. He listens. Then he cuts.

That sounds simple. It should be simple. But that is also why people remember it.

People remember how you made them feel.

There are plenty of talented barbers in Sydney. There are plenty of shops with good equipment. Plenty of places capable of producing a sharp haircut.

Technique matters. Of course it does.

But technique alone does not create loyalty.

Trust does. Consistency does. Being remembered does. Feeling comfortable enough to sit down and know you are in good hands does.

That is what Anthony’s review captures. He did not just say “Prince cuts hair well.” He talked about the person behind the chair.

That means more.

Why this matters to Fresh By Prince

Prince can keep improving the technical side forever. There is always another detail. Another technique. Another way to refine the finish. That part never stops.

But Fresh By Prince was never meant to become a haircut factory.

The chair is personal. The conversation is personal. The relationship becomes personal.

You see the same person every few weeks. They know your hair. Eventually they know your stories. They know when you are growing something out. They know when you want a change. They know when you have somewhere important to be.

And eventually you stop saying “I need a haircut.”

You start saying “I’m going to see Prince.”

That’s the difference.

The photo says the rest.

Anthony posted a photo with the review. There is something nice about that.

The work has already left the shop. He is outside. Back in his day. The barber chair is nowhere in sight.

And that is where a haircut actually has to work.

On the street. At work. At dinner. On a date. At a wedding. In a photo somebody takes when you are not thinking about your hair at all.

The appointment lasts less than an hour. You wear the result everywhere else.

That is the real test.

The real review

What Anthony came in for: A haircut.

What he remembered: The experience.

What he praised: Prince’s craft, passion, energy and the way he makes people feel welcome.

What Prince takes from it: Keep getting better at the work. Never lose the human part.

Thank you, Anthony.

For the review. For the photo. For backing the shop. And especially for noticing the thing Prince wants Fresh By Prince to be known for.

Good work matters. Good people matter too.

Greets you at the door. Pulls you a cold one. Listens. Then cuts.

That is Fresh By Prince.

Getting to the chair

Fresh By Prince is in Surry Hills, but Prince's chair isn't only convenient for people who live around the corner. The L1 light rail stops right outside on Devonshire Street, and Central Station is roughly a five-minute walk away. That makes the shop an easy trip if you're coming in from the Inner West, Eastern Suburbs, CBD or further across Sydney by train. If you're already travelling through Central for work, uni or the city, getting a proper cut in Surry Hills doesn't need to become a separate expedition.
